Teams Calling is Microsoft's Cloud Based Phone System built in the Microsoft Teams application. Its the Microsoft 365 Phone System in the cloud or sometimes called Microsoft 365 business voice. What is Microsoft Teams direct routing?

Direct routing or Teams Calling, is the capability to make and receive telephone and video calls in the Microsoft Teams application. By choosing to add the Microsoft Phone System in the teams application, enables calls to businesses and customers around the world, all within Microsoft teams on the public switch telephone network (PSTN). By using a SIP Trunk to route your calls over the internet, this is a cost-effective solution within one platform. Teams Direct Routing is also known as Teams Calling or The Teams Phone System. The Teams Phone replaces traditional Phone Systems & PBXs and enables key calling capabilities with a cloud-based call control system that provides the overall telephony workload for Microsoft Teams.

How does direct routing work?

Next telecom connect to the Microsoft Teams Phone system by hosting a Microsoft Teams-certified Session Border Controller (SBC) within our own network, which we then connect to our SIP Trunks. This enables the Direct Routing which is also known as Teams calling. We then add another trunk between the SBC and Microsoft Teams so we can configure the line and connect this up with your Teams accounts.

What is Microsoft Operator Connect?

Microsoft Operator Connect is another method of providing PSTN connectivity with the Microsoft Teams Calling. Operator Connect providers are required to meet stringent requirements set by Microsoft to be part of the Operator Connect program which will be released sometime in early to mid 2022.

When Australian Operator Connect launches, Teams PBX Admins will be able to open the “Operators” tab in the Teams Admin Centre, where qualified operators such as Next Telecom and CommsGroup will be listed. Teams PBX Admins can then select their preferred operator and connect calling services, at which point they can acquire phone numbers from these operators and assign them to their users.

What is Microsoft Teams in a nutshell?

It’s a communications app that offers a host of features such as PSTN voice calling, instant messaging, video meetings and file transfers within an organisation.

What is the Microsoft Teams Phone System?

The Microsoft Teams Phone System is Microsoft's Voice technology platform for enabling call control and Private Branch Exchange (PBX) capabilities in the Microsoft 365 cloud with Microsoft Teams. It uses the same engine as the Skype for Business but is built into the Teams Application.

How do we log into the Teams Calling Phone System?

To log into the Teams Calling phone system you just need your Office 365 log in. ITs very simple and you dont need a technician and this allows you to log into any devices that has the teams application loaded.

Can we port our Business Phone Numbers to Teams Calling?

Yes any IP, SIP, PSTN or ISDN and even Mobile numbers can be ported to Teams Calling.

Can I have per user Teams Calling Plans or have Teams Direct Routing SIP plans?

Yes you can choose your Teams Direct Routing Call plans based on the number of users and each user can be on the phone at the same time. If you have 20 users you can have 20 simultaneous calls running.

Or you can choose a Teams Direct Routing SIP plan where you choose the number of Teams SIP channels to be shared by your team. If you have 10 Channels but 20 staff, only 10 calls can be taken at any one time.

How are internal calls in our business managed over Microsoft Teams Calling?

Calls between users in your business are handled entirely within the Microsoft Teams Phone System and never go into the PSTN network regardless of Global location.

What do MS Teams Calling, Direct Routing & Operator Connect do?

These are all essentially the same thing, allowing you to use the Microsoft Teams Phone System to make PSTN calls. The main difference is how your provider delivers the Microsoft Teams calling phone service with little or no difference for the end user.

What hardware can I use for MS Teams Phone System?

When you set up Teams you can add the licence to a range of Desktop Phone, Desktop PC, Laptop, tablet or mobile devices

What if I already have Microsoft products like Office 365?

Microsoft Teams will fully integrate with your existing licence straight out of the box, so it’s ready to use right away.

Do I need to have a Microsoft Partner (MSP) to manage the MS phone teams phone system?

Yes a MS partner will be required to Manage the Teams Phone System deployment and manage the Moves Adds and Changes.

Is there an extra cost to enable Teams 365 Calling?

An additional fee may be applicable depending on your Tier of MS Office 365 licensing. Speak to your MSP regarding these charges as adding the phone system to the teams licence may affect your Microsoft Teams pricing.

Who Manages the moves adds and changes to the MS Teams Phone System?

The MSP looks after no carrier related moves adds and changes and we can train your staff to do basic Level 1 Moves, Adds and Changes through the Office 365 Portal. Next Telecom looks after carrier and number related changes.

Can I work from home with Teams Calling?
