NBN Co to spend $700m on 240 'business fibre zones' across Australia
Reduced Month Enterprise Ethernet access charges plus Low or No Fibre Build charges in 240 Business Fibre Zones.
NBN Co today announced a $700 million project plan creating 240 “business fibre zones” in some NBN Enterprise Ethernet Zone 1, 2 areas. These areas, including outer suburban and regional locations within the Business Fibre Zones, will then access to NBN Business Enterprise Ethernet plans with CBD Zone pricing.
This will mean around 700,000 businesses LOCs (Location IDs) will qualify for no-cost fibre builds and potentially CBD level Enterprise Ethernet pricing.
NBN co also announced that 97% of the fixed line footprint LOCs will not incur any Fibre Build costs
NBN Co stated: “NBN Co is pleased to announce today that when an internet retailer places an order for enterprise ethernet, for an estimated 90 percent of business premises in the national NBN network footprint, we will not charge the retailer for building the fibre.
These products will retain the 36 month no upfront charge for Enterprise Ethernet connection. NBN co said “Plus, if an internet retailer signs up for a three-year enterprise ethernet plan, we will not charge the retailer an upfront connection cost.”
The 700,000-plus businesses in the zones also qualify for the cheapest zoned pricing.
Another part of the announcement is that NBN Co is changing its base service offering so that the 100/100Mbps Enterprise Ethernet pricing is the same as the 10/10 Mbps to 90/90 Mbps pricing. This effectively means that the 100/100Mbps service is the entry level Enterprise Ethernet.
Of the 240 business fibre zones, 85 are located in regional areas. NBN Co, however, did not announce all locations today, but instead only 130 of them. 14 if the Business Fibre Zones will be located around major Hospitals to facilitate the formation of globally competitive health precincts.
The fibre deployment is subject to an order being placed meaning NBNco will not use a build it and they will come model.
The first 130 business fibre zones that will get this Enterprise Ethernet enhancement are.
